The collections at Northampton Museums include social history, fine and decorative art as well as 5000 items of military history, 35,000 geological specimens and 5000 items of leather.
The shoe collection is the largest collection of shoe heritage in the world. It is designated as being of national and international significance, featuring more than 12,000 shoes from Egyptian footwear to contemporary British design, documentary footage and fine art.
Research into the collections and all matters relating to the creation, production and consumption of footwear is encouraged by the museum. This research framework and strategy has been drafted to provide a focus for those engaged with or contemplating research into the collections.
