Air Quality Review - Introduction

A system for assessing air quality was introduced by the Environment Act 1995. The Government has produced a National Air Quality Strategy with set objectives for seven pollutants.  Local Authorities, including Northampton Borough Council, have to review and assess the levels of these pollutants in their areas, and predict whether they are likely to meet these objectives.

Where a failure is identified, the area concerned will usually be declared as an Air Quality Management Area (AQMA), and an action plan is put in place to tackle the problems identified.  Comments on the Air Quality Review and Assessment for Northampton are always welcomed.

We have compiled a contact list for further information and advice about air quality.
