Discover Christmas in Northampton

Northampton residents are invited to Discover Christmas in Northampton through an interactive digital festive trail available through the augmented reality app Explore Northampton. 

Discover Christmas experience available through the app will see residents venturing out to Northampton town and help Father Christmas collect all things needed for the big day. On this festive trail, they’ll be able to see in augmented reality and collect items such as Christmas trees, elves, reindeers, presents and many more! 

Users will also be able to meet the big man himself at Delapre Abbey, once they have completed the trail and collected all the items in the town centre.  Everyone completing the trail can be in with the chance of winning one of the five £50 vouchers or the main £250 voucher provided by Northampton Town Centre BID if they share on social media their photos using the app with the hashtag #ExploreNorthamptonApp #ChristmasinNorthampton. 

Additionally, the app can bring some festive cheer to anyone who would like a personal visit Father Christmas. Residents can augment him in their own home and get a special Christmas message

Cllr Anna King, Cabinet Member for Community Engagement and Safety, said: “This Christmas Northampton residents can enjoy the town in a playful, creative and innovative way using augmented reality experiences on offer through the Explore Northampton app. 

“Discover Christmas experience won’t only bring you the Christmas spirit, everyone completing the trail can also win one of the six vouchers kindly offered by Northampton town centre BID. Let’s all Discover Christmas in Northampton like never before and help Father Christmas get ready for the big day. “

Mark Mullen, BID Operations Manager, added: “The BID is delighted to be supporting this exciting new augmented reality app, a truly creative project that will encourage yet more people to discover and rediscover Northampton and all our town centre has to offer. We look forward to seeing this app in action and will be supporting the campaign by providing £500 of shopping vouchers to winning app users.”

The festive season is the perfect time to discover the local history using A Walk in the Past. History enthusiasts are able to step back in time and discover the people who made it the town it is today using their phone.

In addition to the handy trail map available through the app, stickers have been placed in the different trail locations to assist people in finding the personalities of the past and the festive trail.
