Virtual Bonfire night celebrations
Northampton is set to celebrate Bonfire night 2020 in a unique way this year.
Thousands would normally gather at the Racecourse to enjoy the bonfire and fireworks display, but with coronavirus restrictions in place the annual celebration, coordinated by Northampton Borough Council, will be moving online.
Residents are reminded that noise triggered by firework displays causes distress to both wild animals and pets. So, don’t just think about keeping indoor animals safe, bear in mind your garden wildlife when celebrating Bonfire night, think carefully if you have the appropriate space to use them.
Councillor Anna King, Cabinet member for community engagement and safety, said: “We are pleased to be able to share a small-scale digital celebration for audiences to enjoy and experience in the safety and comfort of their homes. Make sure you tune in at 6pm on Thursday to celebrate with us in a safe way.
“I echo the advice from our fire services colleagues and urge you to think twice about having a home firework display but if you are having one, think carefully, plan carefully and follow the safety measures. Some people and animals are scared by firework noise so if you’re planning to let off fireworks please avoid buying really noisy ones and take precautions to protect wildlife and pets in your garden.”
