Final push for Male Role Model nominations
If you know a man or boy who has made an important contribution to society, there is still time to nominate them for the Male Role Model of the Year Award 2020 on 19 November.
This year’s awards, coinciding with International Men’s Day 2020, aims to honour those inspiring male role models who have made a significant difference to their communities, families, schools and workplaces.
Northampton Borough Council is encouraging residents, businesses, schools and community groups to help identify those who have gone above and beyond – particularly during a challenging year due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Last year’s main winner was mentor Anton Nobel, who delivers a gang intervention programme through his organisation Guiding Young Minds, aimed at reducing gang violence and helping participants live a life free of crime.
The 2019 Special Recognition Award was presented to nine-year-old Tommy Griffin Boyd, who completed a sponsored swim and raised over £800 for Harry Restall – a young boy with cerebral palsy who he had never met.
Councillor Anna King, Cabinet Member for Community Engagement and Safety, said: “We have already received so many worthy nominations this year, but we know there are more individuals who deserve recognition.
“We call on those residents who know and work with them closely to get involved by nominating these valued role models and make our judges’ decision as tough as possible.
“We are looking forward to celebrating these men and boys who have made important contributions to their communities in November.”
Due to coronavirus, this year’s awards will take place virtually – you can watch here from 4pm on the day.
Nominate someone you know for a Male Role Model of the Year Award – there is an option to upload a video nomination if you wish.
Nominations close on 6 November.
