Director sought for new initiative to celebrate Northampton’s culture
A director is being sought for the board of Northampton’s newly formed Cultural Compact.
A highly creative individual is needed for the six-month post, which has been funded by Arts Council England, to drive, manage and coordinate the Cultural Compact’s activity and spearhead a step-change in Northampton’s culture and creative life.
A group of partners, brought together by Northampton Borough Council, submitted a bid to Arts Council England earlier this year for the creation of the Cultural Compact and was successful in securing £20,000 of investment.
The Cultural Compact will work with partners in the town to embed culture in the DNA of Northampton at a critical moment in its political and economic evolution. The director role will lead the activity, bringing together the vision for Northampton as a cultural destination.
Councillor Anna King, Northampton Borough Council cabinet member for community engagement and safety said: “We are extremely grateful to have received Arts Council England funding to enable us to appoint a director for the Cultural Compact to drive the project forward. There are so many wonderful cultural organisations in Northampton and, especially given the times we are currently living in, we are more appreciative than ever of what a strong cultural offering gives the town.”
Jo Gordon, Chief Executive of Royal & Derngate, added: “This is an exceptional opportunity for an ambitious individual with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the cultural sector. The role will be key in creating a long-term strategy to amplify the social and economic impact of culture in our town and embed it into wider thinking.”
