All abilities to be celebrated at community events

All abilities will be celebrated during two community events promoting accessible futures for this year’s International Day of People with Disabilities.

A special relaxed screening of The Peanut Butter Falcon will be held at 6.10pm on 3 December will help get the celebrations started on the official awareness day.

Organised by Northampton Borough Council, Deafconnect and Northampton Filmhouse, tickets to the screening of the Tyler Nilson and Mike Schwartz film will cost just £3 a ticket.

Following the next day on Wednesday 4 December, the Borough Council, Deafconnect and Northamptonshire Police will host a fun and informative community event at the Spencer Dallington Community Centre.

Opening at 11am the event will feature performances from The Cube Disability Arts Academy, Teamwork Trust and Steve the Juggler.

Whilst enjoying the entertainment, visitors can also get handy tips and advice from Northamptonshire Police and support services such as  In addition, they can take part in a raffle in support for Deafconnect. Prizes include tickets to Northampton Town Football Club games and Northampton Filmhouse tickets.

A spokesperson for Northampton Borough Council said: “We are proud to be running events in support of International Day of People with Disabilities in Northampton for the fourth year running.

“Lead by the Borough Council’s Disabled Peoples’ Forum in partnership with Deafconnect, Northampton Filmhouse and Northamptonshire Police, this year’s event focuses on enabling and celebrating accessible futures.

“Everyone is welcome to both the film screening and the community event, to find out more about local support services and enjoy the entertainment and refreshments provided.”
