Voluntary Community First Responder Cathy Goldsmith was confirmed as the winner of Northampton’s 2019 Inspirational Woman Award, at the town's International Women's Day celebrations on 9 March.

Cathy was selected as the award winner for her commitment to her duty as a Community First Responder with South Northants Community Responders.

Over the past two years, Cathy has volunteered more than 500 hours of her time to respond to 999 emergency medical calls, in support of East Midlands Ambulance Service, and has saved numerous lives in situations such as cardiac arrest.

In her nomination, Cathy was described as ‘selfless’ and ‘devoted,’ and ‘someone who is always helping people in their darkest hours’. She was also acknowledged for the effort she makes to train and mentor other Community First Responders in Northamptonshire.

BBC Radio Northampton presenter, John Griff, who also served as a member of the Inspirational Women Award judging panel, presented Cathy with her award, alongside the four other finalists.

Councillor Anna King, Cabinet member for community engagement and safety, said: “As always, choosing a winner from the many nominations we received this year was extremely difficult- each of the five award finalists deserve recognition for the hard work and commitment they have shown in their communities.

"However, Cathy’s caring personality really shone through in her nomination, and we wanted to highlight her voluntary work. We hope that giving her this award helps to do this and we are all very grateful for her continuing support in Northampton.”
