Celebrate the #BalanceforBetter this International Women’s Day

Families are invited to a fun community event celebrating International Women’s Day at the Guildhall on Saturday 9 March.

Opening at 11am, the day’s programme will highlight this year’s theme #BalanceforBetter with a range of activities such as stage performances, a catwalk show, story sharing, information stalls and children’s entertainment.

Northampton Rock Choir, Northampton Bharatnatyam group and Starlight Stage School will keep families entertainment throughout the day, with their lively singing and dance performances. And people can find out more about the history of the town during two showings of the ‘100 years of Northampton in 15 minutes’ catwalk show.

Attendees can also get involved in a junior crime scene investigation work shop with Northamptonshire Police from 11am and find out more about pensions with the Women Against State Pension Inequality (WASPI) at 2pm.

In addition, BBC Radio Northampton’s Saturday morning presenter, John Griff, will be on stage to announce this year’s Inspirational Woman Award winner at 1.30pm.

Councillor Anna King, Cabinet member for community engagement and safety, said: “International Women’s Day celebrates the achievements of women across the globe and we’re so pleased to be marking it again in Northampton, with a free family event in the Guildhall.

“There will be plenty to inspire and interest everyone at the event, from entertainment to networking, pamper sessions and information about what going on in our town throughout the year. Come along and get involved.”
