New-look website for Northampton borough residents
Northampton Borough Council is set to launch a refreshed web interface within the next two days to help customers navigate the site more easily.
It will initially go live for final testing, following which it will be rolled out and users might experience a little disruption, particularly with some e-forms.
Once any teething issues have been resolved, the revamped site will become a much more user-friendly portal to the Council’s services.
Cllr Anna King, Cabinet member for engagement and community safety, said: “Some might ask why we’re doing this now, with the prospect of unitary right around the corner.
“My answer would be that our customers deserve a better experience than our website currently offers and I wouldn’t want them to have to wait another 16 months or more.
“While it’s hosted on the same platform, the new interface is much easier to navigate, being based on good practice demonstrated in other areas.
“With the updated design and structure in place, we’ll be gradually making improvements to the rest of the site to cut back on clutter and make sure everything is as easy as possible to use.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to apologise ahead of time for any disruption people might experience, but it will be worth it once the new interface is established.”
The primary aim of the improvements is to help customers more easily find what they are looking for, which should increase usage.
An ongoing audit of content and convenience will also help streamline and optimise the whole website ready for integration in the event of local government reform in the county.
A new method for customers to manage their accounts is also expected to be rolled out in the New Year which will help improve the customer experience even further.
If anyone has any issues accessing services during the switch-over, they are asked to call the Council’s Customer Contact Centre on 0300 330 7000.
