Team GB Wheelchair Tennis athlete, Dermot Bailey, will lead celebrations on Monday, 3 December for International Day of People with Disabilities.

Taking place at the Guildhall from 11am, the event aims to celebrate all abilities by raising awareness of the different support, sports and work opportunities available to disabled people in the town.

Visitors will have the chance to speak to local organisations as well as Dermot, who will be sharing details of his experiences with Team GB. In addition, visitors can enjoy performances from Singing for Breathing, The Cube Disability Arts Academy and a drumming session with Richard Sherratt from Get On Board.

Later that day, film enthusiasts will have the chance to take in a screening of ‘Breathe’, a true story of how a young man paralysed by polio helped to design the first wheelchair, at Northampton Filmhouse from 6.30pm.

Councillor Anna King, Cabinet member for community engagement and safety, said: “International Day of People with Disabilities is an important date, which we are proud to be marking in the town for a third year running.

“We’re delighted to welcome Dermot Bailey to the Guildhall for this year’s event, which has been organised with the Disabled Peoples’ Forum. We hope that people come along and enjoy the entertainment as well as find out more about the local services and facilities available in the town.”
