Eight young people got a taste of Council life at a Guildhall event during UK Parliament Week.

The young people are members of Northampton’s Youth Forum and attended a ‘speed dating’ styled event on Friday, 16 November, on behalf of Kingsthorpe College, Northampton School for Boys, Bosworth College, Northampton Academy and Northgate School Arts College.

During the event, the young people got to spend time with eight Councillors representing each Cabinet portfolio, five of the Council’s community forums and the licensing committee.

The High Sherriff also attended as a special guest as the young people found out more about Northampton Borough Council and the role the Councillors play in the Council’s Cabinet and in the town.

The young people, aged 12 to 18 years old, were also able to pose questions from their schools about the issues that matter to young people. Topics discussed included finance, housing, community safety and the environment.

Councillor Anna King, Cabinet member for community engagement and safety, said: “The views of the town’s young people are really important to us and the event at the Guildhall last week gave them the perfect opportunity to speak directly to Cabinet members about ideas and concerns.

“We are pleased the young people enjoyed the event and we look forward to hearing more of their ideas and views in the future.”
