A ceremony to lay poppy crosses in the Abington Square Memorial Garden will take place on Friday, 26 October at 11am.

Representatives from the Royal British Legion and the Western Front Association will join the Mayor of Northampton, Councillor Tony Ansell, and the Lord Lieutenant of Northamptonshire to read the Ode of Remembrance and hear the last post bugle calls, before observing a two minute silence and laying personal crosses.

Councillor Ansell said: “The names of 3671 individuals from Northampton who sacrificed their lives in conflicts between 1914 and 2018 are listed in the memorial garden, so we will be taking the time to remember and honour them, ahead of our full day of events on Remembrance Sunday.”

26 October marks the start of the 2018 Northampton Poppy Appeal and 3671 poppy crosses will be arranged in the garden ahead of the ceremony.

Members of the public are welcome to attend the ceremony to lay a poppy cross in the garden and add a message to their cross.
