Share your Shoe Stories
Owners of shoes with a tale to tell are invited to a drop in event at Abington Park Museum on Saturday, 5 May, between 2.00pm and 4.00pm.
The Shoe Stories project, led by Northampton Museums and Art Gallery, will gather stories about all kinds of shoes and what they mean to their owners, from first pairs to favourite pairs and iconic styles or shoes that symbolise a particular era in history.
These stories, and any donated shoes, could feature in exhibitions in the new Central Museum and Art Gallery in Guildhall Road, which is due to open at the end of 2019.
The first phase of the new Central Museum and Art Gallery is now well underway, and will include a new shoe gallery and in-house exhibitions focusing on the museum’s world-class shoe collection.
Councillor Anna King, Cabinet member for community engagement and safety said: “Shoes are such an important part of the town’s heritage so we would love to involve local residents in the development and creation of future exhibitions.
“Perhaps you were a Teddy Boy who wore crepe soled creepers, or a Punk in Dr Marten’s boots. Anyone who worked in the Northampton shoe industry can also come along and share their stories.”
