A full day of family fun is set to take place at Abington Park Museum to celebrate park life.

From dog displays to kite flying, traditional park games and craft activities, there will be something for all ages to enjoy at the Park Life Family Fun Day from 11am to 3pm on Saturday 19 August.

Activity sessions inside Abington Park Museum will include making park animal masks, hook-a-duck, face painting and Animal Encounter educational talks by Amate Animalia – an exotic animal rescue charity.

Many of the groups who are active in Abington Park will be running their own activities including the Friends of Abington Park who will be providing information about their Duck Patrol scheme and how best to care for the ducks in the park. Northampton Leisure Trust’s play rangers will be providing play activities, including space hopper racing, and the Northants Dog Training Club will be bringing along their dog demonstration team for a display at noon.

Children will be able to make their own kite with the Midlands Kite Fliers of Great Britain, who will be demonstrating how to fly kites throughout the event.

Staff and volunteers from Abington Park Museum will also be collecting memories of living, working and socialising in Abington for a new exhibition celebrating the history, heritage and culture of the manor house, park and surrounding area.

Food and drink will be available to buy at the event and will include a sausage and burger barbecue from Farmer Lou’s Posh Pork & Lush Lamb and freshly baked muffins by Bluebox Muffins.

Councillor Anna King, cabinet member for community engagement and safety, said: “Abington Park is a real jewel in Northampton’s crown and the museum’s Park Life Family Fun Day will highlight all of the many fantastic activities and opportunities available for all to enjoy in the park.”

Entrance is free to the Park Life Family Fun Day. There will be a small charge for some of the activities.
