Revamp starts at Northampton’s Abington Park Museum
Refurbishment work started this week at Abington Park Museum and is expected to be finished sometime in June.
The work was approved at last week’s Northampton Borough Council Planning Committee and includes a light refresh of the Great Hall, Function Room and entrances.
Plans also include a revamp of the toilets and work has been scheduled to cause as little disruption to the museum opening as possible.
Cllr Tim Hadland, borough council cabinet member for regeneration, enterprise and planning, said: “This beautiful 15th century manor house deserves a little care and attention.
“We recently decided to make it available for weddings and other functions, and anyone considering it as a venue should be able to expect something memorable.
“The museum already features a collection of first-rate spaces and this light-touch refurbishment will enhance their period charm.”
Though most of the work will take place while the building is closed, allowing access to visitors between 1-5pm Thursday to Sunday and on bank holiday Mondays, some public areas may be temporarily out of bounds.
The museum has already been inundated with enquiries since it announced its wedding venue status at the end of last year.
Its position within the stunning grounds of Abington Park, along with its local heritage and Georgian styling provides a unique venue for weddings, private parties and meetings.
Close proximity to the heart of Northampton means all accommodation and travel needs are also catered for.
Packages on offer at the museum will be competitively priced and will include the necessary furniture for the function, staffing and catering options such as drinks receptions, buffets and more.
