Borough Council flying the flag for the Commonwealth

Published: Friday, 10 March 2017

Northampton Borough Council is inviting residents to join them on Monday 13 March, as they raise the Commonwealth flag outside of the Guildhall for the fourth year running.

A short ceremony will take place from 9.50am, during which the Mayor of Northampton, Cllr Christopher Malpas, will address guests and Jessica Evans, a Northampton Sea Cadet, will read a special Commonwealth affirmation. The raising of the flag will follow at 10am.

Across the world, 950 flags will be raised at the same time by local authorities, community groups, ex-servicemen, sea and air cadets and many more.

Mayor of Northampton, Cllr Christopher Malpas, said: “The flag raising event on Monday is a fantastic way for Northampton residents to link together with citizens of the Commonwealth.

“We hope that as many people as possible join us as we show our support of the Commonwealth and celebrate its values.”
