Northampton Borough Council will be holding an information event at Weston Favell Shopping Centre to mark International Day of Persons with Disabilities on Saturday 3 December.

For the second year running, the Borough Council has organised the event to raise awareness of the local organisations and services that help disabled people to live independent lives.

Stalls in the shopping centre will be displaying information about returning to work or education and getting involved in meaningful volunteering and leisure activities.  Stall holders taking part in the event include Action Support, Northamptonshire Sport, the Local Offer, Northampton Door to Door Service and Northamptonshire Association for the Blind.

People can stop by to find out more between 11am and 3pm.

Cabinet Member for Community Engagement and Safety, Cllr Anna King, said: “This year we have been pleased to be working through our Disabled Peoples’ Forum to deliver a local event in support of International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

“We hope that people will join us at the shopping centre as we raise public awareness and understanding of disability and highlight the support services that are available in the town.”
