Series of Summer Fun days starts this weekend

Live theatre, magic and circus acts set to entertain the town centre crowds this Saturday (30 July).

This is a joint release in partnership with Northampton Town Centre BID

The first in a series of Summer Fun days will hit Northampton this weekend to coincide with schools breaking up and the summer holidays setting in 

With thousands of residents and visitors expected in the town every day, what better time to put on a show and provide some fun, family entertainment?

On Saturday 30 July, The Looking Glass Theatre with be performing the classic tale, ‘The Wind in the Willows’, as well as moving World War One themed monologues to mark the centenary of the Battle of the Somme.

Added to the mix will be a circus performer and magician bringing amazement, intrigue and magic to passers-by.

The entertainment will run throughout the day and across 3 key locations in the town.

This Summer Fun day has been organised and funded by Northampton Borough Council. The performances will take place from 10am to 3pm in Market Square, All Saints Piazza and East Gate.

This is the first in a trio of Summer Fun days jointly organised and funded by Northampton Town Centre Business Improvement District (BID), Northampton Borough Council and Starbucks, to celebrate the town centre’s creativity. The Summer Fun days follow a series of successful entertainments in Northampton town centre, including the Northampton Music Festival and Discover Northampton Live street entertainment days.

Councillor Anna King, Cabinet Member for Community Engagement at Northampton Borough Council, said:

“The upcoming Summer Fun days will provide some welcome fun and entertainment and are bound to be a hit with families coming into the town.

“Providing free street entertainment is a sure way of bringing people into the town and encouraging them to stay there, which is good for business and for instilling a sense of community spirit as people come together to enjoy the entertainment.”
