The two Northampton parks have retained their Green Flag Award status for another successive year, making them two of the best parks in the whole of the UK and Ireland.

The Green Flag Award recognises and rewards the best parks and green spaces across the country, so to have its flag flying over a park is a mark of quality and something to be proud of.

This year marks an impressive four years in a row that Delapre Park has been given the award, with Abington Park racking up its third year in a row.

Councillor Alan Bottwood, Cabinet Member for Environment, said:

“Receiving the Green Flag Award for Abington Park and Delapre Park is a fantastic achievement and is testament to the hard work, care and attention put in by our Park Rangers, the ‘Friends of Abington Park’ and ‘Friends of Delapre Abbey’ groups, and the many other individuals that take the time to keep the parks at their best.

“The public also have a huge part to play in the upkeep and cleanliness of the parks and I’d like to thank those that respect these spaces and who take the time to clear up after themselves when visiting them.

“We are delighted to be able to fly the flags for yet another year and will do so with pride and a great sense of satisfaction.”

The announcement also comes at a time where Northampton is participating in Love Parks Week, a national celebration of parks and green spaces across the UK and Ireland.
