A fun day of entertainment and activities for all the family will be held at Northampton Market on Saturday 21 May as part of the national Love Your Local Market celebration.

Activities at the Market Square event will include balloon art from Balloonatic alongside entertainment from giant puppetry act The Pigeons and shopping trolley dance display team Granny Turismo.

Northampton Market will be joining more than 1,000 markets across the country to take part in the national Love Your Local Market campaign to highlight the importance of markets in our communities, not only for retail but also as a valuable community asset.

The entertainment will run from 10.30am to 4pm. The Pigeons will be on for half hour performances at 10.30am, 12.30pm and 2.30pm. Granny Turismo will take a turn at 11am, 1pm and 3pm. Balloonatic will perform at 11.30am, 1.30pm and 3.30pm.

Northamptonshire Police will have a stand at the event from 11am until 2.30pm with finger printing and uniforms for children to try on alongside personal safety information.

Army Careers will also be there on the day with their recruitment centre roadshow truck for anyone considering a career in the army.

Councillor Jonathan Nunn, assistant cabinet member with responsibility for markets, said: “Northampton Market is a great asset to the town and we are looking forward to celebrating it with this fantastic day of entertainment as part of this year’s Love Your Local Market campaign. I hope that lots of people will come along to join in the celebration, not only for the entertainment but also to take a look at the excellent fresh produce and products available to buy.”
