Important notice
Northampton Museum & Art Gallery closed on Sunday 19 February 2017 to allow work to start on a major new expansion project. The museum will reopen at the end of 2019.
Abington Park Museum remains open.
Due to our major museum expansion project, unfortunately we have to suspend our enquiries service and loans from the collection. We will continue to accept enquiries related to the shoe collection, but these will have a longer response time. Our schools loans service will also continue as normal. We apologise for any inconvenience that this will cause.
Northampton Borough Council’s museum service cares for the largest collection of objects charting the history of shoes in the world. The collection is designated as being of national and international significance and consists of 12,000 shoes and 50,000 archival records including documentary footage and fine art.
