Activities & workshops for children

The easiest way to book tickets is online on our Eventbrite page. Alternatively, the Abington Park Museum ticket booking line, 01604 838110, is open during term time from November to March, Thursday to Sunday 12 - 4pm and during school holidays Thursday to Sunday 12 - 4pm.  From 1 April the times change to 1 - 5pm.  You can also purchase tickets in person at Abington Park Museum.

 

 

 

Sailing with Pond Yachts

Sailing with Abington Park Model Yacht Club
Thursday 22 August

Abington Park Boating Lake

Abington Park Model Yacht Club is hosting sailing days throughout the summer holidays. Hire a model yacht called a Choppa free sailor and take part in a variety of different sailing activities. Free sailing pond yachts are powered by sails only – just set the sails in the desired direction and let it go. The Choppa racing will finish at 12pm and further sailing with other types of pond yacht will continue from 12–4pm.
A different challenge will be set on each of the three days so you may wish to book for all three. Suitable for individuals and families with children aged five and over. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.                                                                                                                          
This event is organised by Abington Park Model Yacht Club. Meet by the boating lake just before 10am on the day.

Sailing Championship

Abington Park Model Yacht Club hosts a family friendly Sailing Championship. Hire a yacht, pit your sailing skills against other competitors and enjoy watching the excitement at the Abington Park Boating Lake.
Suitable for individuals and families with children aged five and over.
Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.                                                                                                                                                 
This event is organised by Abington Park Model Yacht Club. Meet by the boating lake just before 10am on the day. See more information on the Sailfooty website.

3D Landscape WorkshopColourful patterned landscape with 3D houses

Come and create a colourful patterned landscape with 3D houses, in oil pastels and watercolour. Suitable for children aged 7-13.
£5 per child  Children can be left unaccompanied at this workshop – emergency contact details must be provided on the day should you choose to do so.

Ladybird Ceramic Planter Workshop

Friday 16 August
1-2pm, 2.15 – 3.15pm or 3.30pm – 4.30pm (all sessions sold out)
Abington Park Museum

Keep the kids busy at our workshop decorating ceramic ladybird plant pots. Using acrylic paints add some bright colour then plant with herbs. Suitable for children aged 4–10.

Summer Sun Catcher Workshop

Wednesday 21 August
2.15 – 3pm or 3.15 –4 pm (1.15 – 2pm session sold out)

In this workshop children will decorate happy face flower sun catchers, colouring them in using glass paints and pens to take home and hang by a window for a stained glass effect. Suitable for children aged 3–10.

Northampton Castle Workshop

Build a Lego castle, complete castle jigsaws, dress up as a knight or a princess, colour castle pictures, discover what life in Medieval Northampton would be like, and much more! This is a free workshop from Friends of Northampton Castle. Suitable for children aged four and over. Children must be supervised by an adult.

Stone Painting Workshop

Painting on stones is a craft that rocks! Painted pebbles, rocks and stones are being found all over the country as part of this popular new craze. Come along, get creative and give new life to an ordinary pebble in this one hour workshop for children. Pebbles may be taken home or children may wish to leave them for someone else to find. Suitable for children aged 3–10. This event is on the first floor, accessed by stairs only.

Jingly Wind Chime Workshop

As autumn draws near, come and decorate a wooden leaf wind chime. Personalise using our acrylic paint, deco pens or gems then take home to hang in the garden. Suitable for children aged 3-10.

Haunted Halloween

Halloween

  Join us for a spooktacular day of fun with scary craft activities and a haunted trail around the museum. Try the witches brew  
  at the refreshments stall if you dare! Why not come dressed in your scariest costume?

  place throughout the museum. Some activities may be on the first floor, accessed by stairs only.

Musical Instrument Craft Workshop

Design and create your own one of a kind tambourine, decorate a wooden maraca and learn about how sound travels. Suitable for children aged three and over.

Veggie Sushi for Children

Tuesday 31 October
1.30 – 2.15pm, 2.30 – 3.15pm or 3.30 - 4.15pmSushi workshop for children
Abington Park Museum


Learn how to make colourful, tasty Japanese sushi using a variety of healthy vegetables with Natasha, the Loving Chef from Sol Haven. All materials and aprons included. You will need to bring a container for the two portions of sushi you will take home along with a recipe card. All children must be accompanied by a responsible carer.

As part of the booking process, the adult making the booking will be asked to complete an allergy questionnaire on behalf of the child. Whilst the workshop will use ingredients free from nut, sesame and gluten, children will use soy sauce during the session. We cannot guarantee food manufactuer ingredients as many products may contain traces of nuts, gluten or sesame.

Christmas Magic Lantern Show

  facts are amazing, the images stunning and the jokes are truly awful but they did make the Victorians laugh! Come,

Hunsbury Hillfort Tree Trail

Enjoy the newly developed Tree Trail around the Hunsbury Hill Fort and Country Park.
Free activity suitable for all ages. 
The trail was developed by the Friends of West Hunsbury Parks and funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, supported by Northampton Museums & Art Gallery.
Details are available in the Drovers Return café in the Country Park and online.
