Northampton Museum and Art Gallery
A significant expansion and extension to Northampton's Museum and Art Gallery, a project key to the development of Northampton's Cultural quarter, is underway.
A major element of the project is a new-build extension, connecting the existing museum and Old Gaol Block.
The link building will house the new shoe galleries, showcasing the internationally important shoe collection, the new café and terrace area and a stunning triple-height glazed space, connecting the existing museum building with the Old Gaol Block which was most recently used as council offices.
GSS Architecture were appointed as architects, lead consultants and principal designers and are now working with Wildgoose Construction to carry out the transformation.
Councillor Anna King, cabinet member for community engagement, said: "This innovative VR tour is both engaging and interactive, and gives a really good idea of what people will see once the museum and art gallery opens. We're particularly excited about the huge atrium space, which will provide a stunning new communal area, linking the various parts of the building together. This extensive VR tour shows just what a vast area it will be once complete. When the museum reopens it will present Northampton's rich history, will welcome a range of touring exhibitions and provide a great destination for families, social meetings, events and private functions".
