The Environmental Crime Team
What are environmental crime officers?
Environmental crime officers are there to help reduce environmental crime, anti-social behaviour, minimise the fear of crime and help prevent:
- Trade waste
- Fly tipping
- Fly posting
- Littering
- Dog fouling
- Graffiti
These officers deal with tracking down offenders and taking the appropriate legal action which includes prosecutions in court or the issuing of fixed-penalty notices.
What are fixed-penalty notices?
Fixed-penalty notices will be issued to people caught committing an environmental crime. The cost to the offender will vary with the crime ranging from £50 up to £300. The officers will mainly deal with cases involving trade waste, fly tipping, fly posting, littering, dog fouling and graffiti where there is a need to prepare a case and compile evidence for a prosecution.
This can also include littering of items such as cigarette ends, packaging, wrapping and food waste.
