Flytipping

About fly-tipping

Fly-tipping is the illegal disposal of waste and is a criminal offence that can carry a sentence of 5 years' imprisonment and a £50,000+ fine. Not only is it an eyesore and degrading to communities, it can also pose a danger, particularly to children. Fly-tipping in Northamptonshire costs local tax payers over £750,000 to deal with every year.

Report flytipping online

We have an easy to use, online tool for reporting a range of environmental crimes and other issues, including fly-tipping.

Removing waste responsibly

It is up to you to dispose of your rubbish responsibly. If you find you have too much rubbish, or rubbish that won't fit in your bins/boxes for weekly collection, please take the rubbish to your local waste and recycling centre. If you have large, heavy items to get rid of, we offer a collection service which can be booked online:

Using tradesmen

If you are using a third party (e.g., a builder) to dispose of waste on your behalf, you are responsible for ensuring they are a registered waste carrier, so always ask to see their certificate. Make sure you get a receipt confirming what they have taken, where they have disposed of it and details of any payment made. If the waste is later found to have been fly-tipped and you don't have this proof, you will still be legally responsible for the offence(s) and could be prosecuted.
