Our Place

Following the transfer of the borough's community centres to Community Management Organisations, Northampton Borough Council, together with the Community Management Organisations of Northampton's community centres, BME SRP and Voluntary Impact Northamptonshire, were successful in receiving funding and support from Locality's Our Place Programme for a project focused on further developing and supporting Northampton's community centres.

Our Place is a national initiative launched by the Department of Communities and Local Government, which looks to empower local people within their neighbourhoods to have a role in decision making and in shaping local services and facilities. For Northampton, Our Place involves a series of consultation and engagement activities and events which are focused around 7 of Northampton's community centres.

Get involved

If you would like to be involved with your local community centre, please contact your community centre directly - details can be found in the following document:

Alternatively, please contact the Partnerships and Communities Team on 0300 330 7000.

Setting a positive example

The market leading nature of the programme was recognised in 2013 by being shortlisted for three awards – from LGC, APSE and CfPS. In addition, the programme is being used as an exemplar case study by Locality/Asset Transfer Unit, NCVO and by Community Matters.

The previous Communities Minister, Don Foster MP, visited Northampton in May 2013 to see the programme for himself and made some positive remarks as shown in the video below.
