St Crispin’s Community Facilities
Development on St Crispin's Park
We are building a brand new community centre and sports facilities at St Crispin's Park. This will include:
- a hall with a servery for drinks, for activities and events such as weddings, christenings, wakes and birthday parties,
- a meeting room and office space for hire,
- a cafe with a large kitchen that can supply food and snacks; the kitchen can also supply food for events in the hall
- the rest of the park will be marked out for football pitches and a baseball ground, which will have changing rooms attached to the community centre.
The facilities have been carefully designed with input from a community centre operator, the residents association, and Upton Parish Council.
A community consultation was carried out in 2012 and identified people's needs and requirements for community facilities in St Crispin's. This consultation asked what activities local people would like to see run in the centre, and where it would be best located.
This development has been funded by Section 106 funds, which is money paid to the council by local developers and used to provide facilities for local residents. Additional Section 106 funds have been allocated to this development recently so the facilities will be more extensive than those designed around the consultation exercise.
A planning application for these facilities was approved on 15 March 2016. Formal consultation took place as part of the planning application process. The planning application number is N/2015/0987.
Jeakins Weir have been formally appointed as contractors, and mobilisation has commenced. Work on site began at the end of April. It is likely to take six to nine months to build, depending on the weather, and we therefore hope to open the centre in early 2017. As a result to changes in design, a play area on the site has been moved and upgraded. This means that the equipment will be closed while work takes place. In the meantime, alternative play areas can be found at Roundwood Way, St Crispin's, and Melbourne Lane, Duston.
A community centre operator will be appointed to manage the facilities on our behalf.
If you have any queries about the Community Centre, or for more information, please email the St Crispin's Project Manager.
New allotments are being created for residents in the Upton and Duston areas of Northampton. Each plot will be 25m by 5m in size, with space for a potential tool shed. There will also be tool storage, a meeting room, a toilet, and a shop to sell compost and fertiliser etc. on site.
Allotments can have a waiting list of up to 12 months but do vary, so this is a really exciting opportunity for residents living close by.
The current fees for 2016/17 season are £3.20 per pole, increasing to £3.30 per pole in 2017/18. Most plots are either 5 or 10 poles.
If you are interested in taking over a plot, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or telephone (01604) 593411 to register your interest. If you have any queries about the development or for more information, please email the St Crispin's Project Manager.
