Northampton's parks and open spaces

About our parks

There are 170 parks and open spaces around Northampton, which span around 1880 acres altogether.

These areas are tended to and cared for by our Park Rangers.

Playgrounds and play areas

We manage and maintain 54 play areas within Northampton's parks.

These vary in size and contain a variety of the usual fixtures you'd expect to find such as:

  • Seesaws
  • Slides
  • Roundabouts
  • Climbing frames etc.

If you find any faults with any of the equipment, please contact us and let us know.

Sports facilities

Our parks are perfect for use by sports clubs and enthusiasts. We provide a variety of different pitches, courts etc., as well as equipment, all available at reasonable prices.

Holding events in our parks

Our parks are also great places for holding social and commercial events, particularly when a larger space is required.

Abington Park Bandstand

Abington Park Bandstand is programmed with performances by NBC Events Team from April to September each year. It is not available for hire by the public, due to the large number of performances already hosted in that small area, and the settings.

We can help groups to find other appropriate park locations for events – if you wish to apply please fill in the application form.

Other green areas and open spaces

Northampton also has numerous trails, bridleways and wooded areas that we look after. They make great places to enjoy walking, fishing, ornithology, wildlife study and more.

You may need a licence to undertake certain recreational activities such as fishing, so please check.

We have a number of parks and open spaces for the enjoyment of all the town's residents, visitors and businesses alike; however, to ensure that people can enjoy these open spaces safely, there is a need to have some byelaws. These byelaws govern some of the activities that are permitted to take place on the parks and also those activities that are not permitted to take place on the parks. These byelaws are enforced by us and the parks and open spaces are patrolled regularly by their Park Rangers and Neighbourhood Wardens, who have the powers to issue fixed penalty notices for a range of offences.
