The Northampton Heritage Fair Northampton Heritage Fair

The Northampton Heritage Fair is an annual event held as part of the national Heritage Open Days scheme. The event brings together many varied local groups each with a common interest in Northampton’s rich heritage, to showcase to the public what they can offer. This year it will be at Abington Park Museum for the first time - a venue well known for its place in local history. To find out something new or interesting, why not come and visit. The event will be served by a regular classic bus service from the town centre.

Kinky Boots: The Northamptonshire Story

Join us in a celebration of the Kinky Boots story and its roots in the Northamptonshire boot and shoe industry.
Hear Steve Pateman’s incredible story of turning the family business around, finding international fame and where it took him next. He will be joined by our Senior Shoe Curator and guests who will explore how this international story has its roots in the local boot and shoe trade and how kinky boots are created. There will also be a special display of original kinky boots from the film.

An Evening of Gin - sold out

Come to Abington Park Museum for all things gin! A gin and tonic will be served upon arrival, and attendees will get straight into learning about the history of the spirit and how it is distilled. Six different gins will then be sampled with notes on each, before tasting gins paired with their perfect tonics. After sampling, you will learn how to make the perfect G&T, including the important extras such as which garnishes work with different gins, and how to pair foods for entertaining. This two hour event will be hosted by Quentin Neville, owner and distiller from Northampton’s Phipps Brewery and Artisan Blending Limited. Quentin’s own gins will be available for purchase on the evening.
Alcohol will be consumed at this event and participants should arrange a taxi or alternative transport. Please drink responsibly. Over 18s only.

Japanese Cooking Workshop - sold out

Learn how to make Japanese food in this two-hour workshop and tasting session from Yuko Nakayama. Yuko has lived in the UK for the past 10 years and creates authentic Japanese dinner parties in peoples’ homes through her unique Japanese home dining service, Omotenashi Dining. Yuko prepares home-cooked Japanese food, showing there is much more to Japanese cuisine than sushi. The menu is designed around the current season as seasonality and freshness are
key to Japanese food.
Four items will be prepared and may include dishes such as spinach with creamy walnut tofu sauce and pan-fried salmon marinated in rice vinegar, but may vary depending on ingredient availability.
Throughout the workshop attendees will also be introduced to aspects of Japanese culture, including the significance placed on how the food looks as well as how it tastes.
Suitable for ages 16 and over.
After booking, you will be informed of a list of basic utensils to bring.
Please note that whilst we can cater for some food intolerances, due to the nature of the food being prepared this workshop may not be suitable for everyone. If you have a specific intolerance or queries please contact the museum in advance of booking.

Armistice Day: A 100 Year MemorialArmistice Day: A 100 Year Memorial

100 years ago on 11 November 1918 the First World War ended. Join us in commemoration and celebration of this significant anniversary.

After the Remembrance Sunday Service and Parade at All Saints Church, come to the Market Square to watch performances by The Looking Glass Theatre showcasing excerpts from the play 'Killed'. Hear First World War poetry read by Nairobi Thompson and extracts written by the CreativeWriters@theMuseum. Live music from The Male Voice Choir and Classical Choir. A selection of WWI objects, images and videos from the Conflict and Community Archive will be displayed, along with bunting making and other crafts.
Refreshments will be available to purchase.

Armistice Day Remembrance Service and Parade

Sunday 11 November
9.30 - 11.30am
All Saints Church, Northampton

Northampton troops will be joined by dignitaries for a Rembrance Service at All Saints, followed by a minute's silence at 11am and wreath laying in the church's memorial garden. The Parade will then march past the Guildhall, along St Giles Street and onto Abington Street via Fish Street. They will be dismissed at the Market Square.

Poppy Cross Commemoration

Members of the Royal British Legion and Western Front Association will remember the fallen of Northampton by laying a military cross in their honour.

Northamptonshire Film Archive Trust returns to present a new selection of archive film, including The Prince of Wales' visit to Northampton, the Northampton Hospital parade of 1954 and two films by Northampton Cine Club on Northampton Leisure and Pleasure and Safety Corridor - the introduction of pedestrian crossings in Northampton.
