Northampton Museums offers all sorts of volunteering opportunities, whether you are interested in shoes, arts or history, exhibitions, events or digital media.  Get involved in learning activities, tour guiding, finding out what people think of us, researching and hanging exhibitions, cataloguing and documenting object and collections, conservation, oral history.

The varied roles on offer can give you the pleasure of working in a unique environment developing new skills or hobbies, as well as meeting new people and making new friends.

You don't need previous experience or qualifications to volunteer with us and training is provided. We provide supported volunteering for individuals that benefit from supervision or need to gain skills or experience.

Loans, donations and bequests

If you have an object of historical interest, which relates to the history of the region, or to collections already held by Northampton Museums, and would like to donate it to us, please contact us on 01604 838111 or [email protected]

You must make an appointment to bring your item along, so that you can be sure that you get to speak to a member of the museums staff. We will make a decision on whether to accept your offer based on existing collections, our collecting policy, legislation and council policy.

If the item is not suitable for the museum collection we sometimes ask if you would be willing to donate it to our Education Service who hold a number of original items that are used during educational visits.

If we are not able to accept the item, we may be able to put you in touch with someone who can.
