Recognising notable Northamptonians
A new scheme will celebrate the names and achievements of the most notable people in the story of Northampton, with a new heritage trail that will take in the life and work of many famous figures from Northampton’s rich heritage.
We want to hear who you think should be recognised as a notable Northamptonian, and sit amongst such people as:
- Simon de Senlis
- Pickering Phipps I
- Thomas Becket
- Francis Crick
- Reverend Samuel Wathen Wigg
- John Clare
- Sir Malcom Arnold MBE
- Lt Col Edgar Mobbs
- 2nd Lt Walter Tull
- Diana, Princess of Wales
So, if you've got a suggestion, we'd love to hear from you:
These are all major events in the history of our town and we will be working with local groups and organisations to make sure that suitable events to mark them take place during 2014.
We will also be marking those really significant anniversaries that will echo round the nation in 2014 – the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War One and the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
