Smoking ban enforcement
Smoking in vehicles
Update on new law on smoking in cars and other vehicles with someone under 18
The law has changed to make it illegal to smoke in any vehicle with a child.
On 1 October this year the smoke-free legislation changed to make it an offence to smoke in any vehicle with someone under the age of 18. This includes privately-owned cars and vans, and drivers will be responsible if any passenger smokes.
The rules have been changed by the government to help protect young people from second-hand smoke and the health problems it can cause.
If you smoke, or any passenger smokes, in a vehicle with someone under 18 years, old you could be fined.
