Equality information

Equalities strategy

We are committed to promoting diversity and equality in everything we do to improve the quality of life for everyone living, working and visiting the borough.

We have a duty to have due regard to the need to eliminate discrimination and harassment, advance equality of opportunity and foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic (be it age, disability, ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation, religion or belief, pregnancy or maternity, gender-reassignment, marriage or civil partnership) and those who do not. We are also required to publish equality information about our services and employees at least annually and have to prepare, and publish, one or more objectives, at least every four years.

Our Equality Strategy (adopted in 2012 and reviewed annually) details our key equality objectives, how we measure and monitor performance, and includes an action plan for areas that need improvement.
