The Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 (RIPA) Policy
Some of the Council's activities necessarily require covert surveillance as part of its enforcement functions e.g. environmental health investigations and anti-social behaviour issues.
This is the Council's policy on carrying out covert surveillance in accordance with the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 (RIPA) and the Human Rights Act 1998. The policy sets out the procedures which are followed in order to carry out covert surveillance. The policy also contains details of a complaints system for persons adversely affected by such activities.
The policy has been reviewed to reflect the 2014 amendments to the legislation and was approved on 9th February 2015. It was further updated by Cabinet in June 2016.
