Where your Council Tax goes

Northampton Borough Council collects Council Tax on behalf of all the precepting authorities in the local area, including Northamptonshire County Council, the Northamptonshire Police, Fire & Crime Commissioner and local Parish Councils.

Each precepting authority instructs Northampton Borough Council of the Council Tax amount they wish us to charge. These amounts are added together with the charge from Northampton Borough Council to create one bill for the residents of Northampton.

You can find out how the Council Tax we collect is distributed and where the Borough Council spends its share

The Borough Council also publishes a budget book which provides more detailed information regarding the budget and the services we provide.

In addition, Northampton Borough Council publishes a corporate plan that sets out the Council’s focus on how to deliver economic growth, improve the quality of life and provide services that meet the expectations of our residents.

We also provide details of our individual service plans.
