Discounts and exemptions
Newly-built properties and properties requiring major or structural repair work will be charged 100% Council Tax whilst unoccupied.
Unoccupied and unfurnished properties will be charged 100% Council Tax from the date the property becomes vacant.
Furnished and unoccupied properties, including second homes, will be charged 100% Council Tax from the day the property becomes unoccupied.
A long-term empty property premium of 200% will be payable for properties continually vacant for over 2 years.
These changes provide us with an opportunity to bring empty properties back into use earlier, and therefore will help address the shortage of housing stock in the local area.
