Northampton in Bloom
About the competition
Northampton in Bloom is a local competition, headed up by Northampton Borough Council, that encourages schools, community groups, residents, businesses, allotments and parish councils to get involved in horticulture and community projects for the benefit of residents and visitors to the town. Once again the number of participants in Northampton in Bloom grew last year.
You don't have to be a Monty Don or have acres of land to enter; you just need enthusiasm.
Each year, Northampton enters East Midlands in Bloom. In 2018 we were awarded a Gold Medal and category winner which has led to an invitation to participate in Britain in Bloom which we have been delighted to accept and received the Silver Gilt award.
See our Northampton in Bloom gallery on our Facebook page.
Aims of Northampton in Bloom
- To improve all areas of the town by involving members of the community
- To consider all aspects relating to saving natural resources in the work carried out
- To encourage children to understand their environment through projects within schools and to learn where their food comes from
- To enjoy whatever we do as part of the Bloom community
Northampton in Bloom judging takes place between July and August. All schools will be judged before the end of the summer term.
Anyone wishing to enter the East Midlands ‘In your Neighbourhood’ competition will need to contact our Bloom Office at firstname.lastname@example.org
Northampton in Bloom has an annual theme which, this year, is 'Pride in our Teyn (Town)' introducing civic pride into the town through Northampton in Bloom.
The culmination of everyone’s hard work is celebrated in an awards evening in October. This brings everyone together, and entrants are able to share their experiences and, most importantly, find out what medal they have achieved. Northampton is also presented with its award for East Midlands in Bloom. This is a very popular event in the Bloom calendar and the highlight of the year.
