Northampton in Bloom
About the competition
Northampton in Bloom is a local competition, headed up by Northampton Borough Council, that encourages schools, community groups, residents, businesses, allotments and parish councils to get involved in horticulture and community projects for the benefit of residents and visitors to the town. Once again the number of participants in Northampton in Bloom grew last year to 90 and we are aiming for at least 100 this year.
You don't have to be a Monty Don or have acres of land to enter; you just need enthusiasm.
Each year, Northampton enters East Midlands in Bloom. In 2017 we were awarded a Gold Medal and category winner which has led to an invitation to participate in Britain in Bloom which we have been delighted to accept.
Aims of Northampton in Bloom
- To improve all areas of the town by involving members of the community
- To consider all aspects relating to saving natural resources in the work carried out
- To encourage children to understand their environment through projects within shools and ato learn where their food comes from
- To enjoy whatever we do as part of the Bloom community
The East Midlands in Bloom judges will be visiting the town during the first two weeks of July and the Britain in Bloom judges during the first two weeks of August - look out for the confirmed date nearer the time.
Northampton in Bloom has an annual theme which, this year, is 'Remembrance' to commemorate the end of the First World War. We look forward to seeing the innovative and colourful ideas people have come up with when the judging takes place, although you don't have to follow this theme.
The culmination of everyone’s hard work is celebrated in an awards evening in October. This brings everyone together, and entrants are able to share their experiences and, most importantly, find out what medal they have achieved. Northampton is also presented with its award for East Midlands in Bloom. This is a very popular event in the Bloom calendar and the highlight of the year.
