Debt Recovery: overview
Debt Recovery – who are we and what we do
Northampton Borough Council levies charges and rent for a variety of services and is responsible for the collection of local taxes.
The Recovery Section is responsible for the collection of money owed to the council for invoices and debts such as Leasehold Service Charges, overpaid Housing Benefit, former tenant arrears and sundry debt invoices.
The aims of the Debt Recovery Team are to:
- Facilitate a coordinated approach to managing multiple debts owed to the council
- Identify where appropriate support, which may be required, to those owing money to the council and ensure their circumstances are taken into consideration
- Apply best practice in relation to debt collection.
Our Corporate Debt Policy sets out the principles that will be applied when recovering unpaid rent or charges.
