Brownies sleep over at Northampton museum
Published Thursday 17th June 10
49 Brownies and their leaders from Glenfield in Leicestershire had a sleepover at Northampton Museum and Art Gallery on Saturday (12 June) as part of their centenary celebrations taking place in 2010.
During the sleepover, they worked towards two badges - their Brownie Holiday Badge and the Centenary Challenge Badge. To get the badges they had to carry out different activities, including making a meal, keeping a diary of their 'holiday', taking part in a new activity, arts and crafts, working as a team and giving a performance.
For fun, they also had the chance to look around the galleries and play games.
Local café 27 Red kindly supplied the group with Jacket potatoes for their evening meal.
At bedtime, the Brownies camped out in museum's Life and Sole and Followers of Fashion shoe galleries. After breakfast on Sunday they did some more activities, including making a Rosebud peg doll (Rosebud is the name used before the brigade changed its name to Brownies).
Councillor Paul Varnsverry said: "Museums should do all they can to be open and accessible to the public. This is another great example of what we are doing in Northampton to open our doors to community groups."
A Northamptonshire Girlguiding Centenary Exhibition will also open at the museum from 24 July until 5 September.
