Northampton Borough Council

Holocaust Memorial Day events

Published Wednesday 27th January 10

To mark the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz Concentration Camp, Northampton Borough Council has organised a short flower laying ceremony at the Holocaust Memorial Stone at the Guildhall.

The ceremony will take place on Holocaust Memorial Day, this Wednesday (27 January), at 11am. People from around Northampton are welcome to join councillors and community groups to spare a moment and think about those who were sadly killed during the Second World War and in other genocides.

On the same evening at 6.30pm there is a special memorial event being held in The Great Hall in the Guildhall. There will be a number of speakers and performances, including contributions by children and young people from Unity College and Thorplands Primary School. The event is free, but to assist with the organisation places need to be booked by contacting Lindsey Ambrose, Northampton Borough Council's Community Engagement and Equalities Officer, on 01604 837 566 or lambrose@northampton.gov.uk.

There will also be a Northampton Jtrails exhibition called The Hidden Jewish History and Heritage of Northampton starting on Wednesday in The Court Room of the Guildhall. The display was produced by Jtrails working with Northampton Youth Forum, local people and community organisations. It will be open between 9am and 7pm Wednesday, 27 to Friday 29 January and at the same time on Monday, 1 February. On Saturday 30 January the exhibition will be open between 9am and 1pm. Admission is free.
