Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Housing Strategy (draft consultation)

The council recognises that people from black and minority ethnic communities can sometimes experience disadvantages in relation to housing, health, education, and employment and that BME communities have particular needs and aspirations which should be addressed.

Northampton has a growing BME population both in respect of numbers and the increasing diversity of that population.  It is estimated that the BME population has risen from 12% of the total in 2001 to 16% in 2007.

The Housing Strategy 2010 - 2015 has identified the need to revisit and update the previous proposals relating to BME communities and a draft BME Housing Strategy is now available for consultation.

A paper version is also available at the One Stop Shop on request.

The consultation will last for 6 weeks, ending on 10th September. The BME Housing Strategy will then go to cabinet on 13th October 2010, at the end of the consultation period. This will allow the Housing Strategy Team time to engage with the range of diverse groups and communities in Northampton to obtain their views.
