Booklice
What are the best ways to prevent psocids (booklice)?
Prevention, which is always better that having to control an infestation, can be achieved by following these guidelines:
- Food storage areas should be dry and well ventilated
- All new packets of food should be checked and any dry goods placed in sealed containers
- Opened packets of food should be used as soon as possible, and not left for months
- Potential hiding places should be sealed with sealant etc, such as the cracks between panels of fitted kitchen units. They should also be in good condition to prevent harbourage
- Prevent the building up of spilt food in cupboards by regular cleaning, to remove a readily available food source and prevent growth.
- Reduction of condensation and increasing ventilation of a kitchen/storeroom, will change conditions enough so that the psocids won't be able to live and breed
