Lisa Hickling: Thorplands Community Shop 

Lisa Hickling was nominated for her work at the Thorplands Community Shop. The Shop has become an important part of Thorplands and is a resource enjoyed by the entire community. As a registered charity, the Community Shop provides a range of services to support young and old. Each nomination for Lisa praised the positivity, passion, commitment and enthusiasm she displays and how her infectious attitude inspires others. They say she has become an important part of the local community.
 
Lisa said: "It is fantastic just to have been nominated for a Heart of the Community Award, let alone win it, however I do feel I am accepting this award on behalf of a great many people who work or give their time to the Thorplands Community Shop.
 
"The work can be challenging at times, but I do not think you can put a price on the value of the work we do in helping people in Thorplands. It is a deprived area, which makes my role, and that of my staff and volunteers all the more rewarding when we can make a difference in the community and to local people.
 
"The Community Shop is something I am passionate about, as I know we do a lot of good. It is a huge honour and welcome surprise to know that so many people appreciate the work we do and nominated me for an award."
