Bradlaugh Fields
General Information
Developed from a former golf course, Bradlaugh Fields is a park run by the community for the community.
The 60-hectare site was acquired in 1994 and opened in 1998 having been designed by the local community to meet their needs and develop the site for both passive recreation and conservation set within an active urban environment.
In partnership with the Northamptonshire Wildlife Trust and the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers, the friends of Bradlaugh Fields, together with the Bradlaugh Barn Association, have managed to develop a site rich in flora uncommon in Europe. A third of the British butterfly species can be found there along with a protected area for badgers.
The Wildlife Trust manages three local nature reserves - the Scrub Field, the Hills and Hollows and the Quarry field.
Water management of the site provides further areas of habitat with aquatic life. The site has a number of ponds, each with their own characteristics, which provide an array of educational opportunities.
