Open Data
About Open Data
Northampton Borough Council is now committed to providing open data and transparency.
What this means is making the non-personal information we hold freely available to everyone in a format that can be reused.
Anyone can use our data and you don't have to apply or ask for permission; but you are required to agree to the terms of the Open Government Licence for public sector information.
Otherwise, you are free to use the data as you see fit.
For example you may want to:
- Examine the data to get a better understanding of local issues or of how we work.
- To republish the data on your blog or website.
- If you are a software or web developer, you may want to use the data as part of a web application or mashup.
What data is available?
Some of the open data currently available from us is listed (right) and over time we will be sharing more information available for you to re-use.
How we publish data
We have decided to publish our data in a variety of file formats and in both read-only and full access formats.
For data crunchers and number lovers and those who really want to get stuck into the data available, we provide raw files of all the open data we publish.
For those that are perhaps just curious and only want to see the numbers, or for those that don't have the software necessary to open raw data files, we have also provided our open data in a read-only format that is hosted on Google Docs.
The main benefit of this is that people without software such as Microsoft Office are able to view the open data we publish.
