Visitors to one of Northampton’s premier parks now have an unimpeded view of the town’s latest heritage attraction.

Delapré Abbey is in the finest condition of its 900-year history and hoardings around the site have been removed this week so the building can be seen in all its glory.

Cllr Jonathan Nunn, Northampton Borough Council leader, said: “This is a key milestone towards getting the Abbey open to the public.

“There are several private events coming up which will help generate income to support the operation of Delapré, and we continue working towards a date when it will start welcoming the local community as well as visitors from further afield.”

Robert Woodhead Ltd has completed the major construction work and is now progressing the snagging list. Further enhancements are also being considered based on advice from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).

The popularity of the café has also demonstrated the need for increased car parking and options for this are currently being assessed.
