Borough Council committed to maintaining food standards in Northampton

Northampton Borough Council is reminding traders of their commitment to food safety after a restaurant and proprietor were prosecuted for failing to comply with Hygiene Improvement Notices.
On Tuesday, 18 April, Northampton Magistrates Court fined Golden China Ltd and Mr Yi Yu for not complying with several Notices served in connection with cleaning of the premises, its equipment and protecting food against contamination.
Following the verdict, Golden China Ltd was fined £4,000 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £175 and legal costs of £225. In addition, Mr Yi Yu was fined £400 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £40 and legal costs of £225.
Cllr Jonathan Nunn, the leader of the Borough Council, said: “Environmental health officers carry out regular checks on all food premises to ensure the public is protected and that high standards are maintained.
“These inspections are ongoing and we take action against any premises that fail in their duty to their customers.”
A further inspection of the premises on Kingsley park Terrace, will be undertaken shortly.
