International Women’s Day celebrations to be held at Northampton Guildhall
Published Tuesday, 14 February 2017
Local women are being invited to attend a free event at the Guildhall on Saturday 4 March in celebration of International Women’s Day.
The event, which takes place between 11am and 3pm, will be packed full of information, performances and fun activities.
As part of the celebrations, Northampton Borough Council's Women's Forum and BBC Radio Northampton will take to the stage at 1pm to announce the winner of the 2017 Inspirational Woman Award.
Organisations such as Alzheimer’s Society, the University of Northampton and Zimwomen will be on hand to provide information about the local services and opportunities that are available to women. And a range of free workshops covering subjects such as empowerment, knitting with the School of Life and dancing, will offer attendees the chance to learn something new and network with like-minded people.
In addition, there will be a full programme of stage performances and there will also be a chance to relax and treat yourself, with pampering sessions offering trial manicures, facials and massages.
Elsie’s Café, Northampton’s real junk food project, will be providing lunch and refreshments.
Cllr Anna King, the Borough Council’s Cabinet member for community engagement and safety, said: “International Women’s Day is a worldwide celebration of women’s successes and we are pleased to be hosting a free event at the Guildhall to help mark the date locally.
“We look forward to welcoming women from across the county to the event, whether they want to pop in for an hour or so or attend the whole event, and celebrating local achievements with the Inspirational Woman Award.”
