Northampton Borough Council’s museum service cares for the largest collection of objects charting the history of shoes  in the world. The collection is Designated as being of national and international significance and consists of 12,000 shoes and 50,000 archival records including documentary footage and fine art.

The ground floor of Northampton Museum is dedicated to the display of footwear from ancient Egyptian times through to the present. The Shoe Lounge showcases current designers and manufacturers and provides a relaxing space to drink coffee. It is also available to hire.

New opening times

From 1 May 2014, our museums will be open during these times:

Northampton Museum and Art Gallery

Tuesday - Saturday and Bank Holiday Mondays: 10am - 5pm 

Sundays: 12pm - 5pm

Mondays: closed

Abington Park Museum

April - October

Thursday to Sunday and Bank Holiday Mondays: 1pm - 5pm

November - March

Saturday and Sunday: 12pm - 4pm 

Appointments to view museums for groups can be made outside opening hours.
